Generic Vaniqa Eflornithine hydrochloride Cream, 13.9% is used for the lessening of unwanted facial hair in women. Dosage and Administration

Use a thin layer of Vaniqa Eflornithine Cream, to affected areas of the face and adjacent involved areas under the chin and massage in detail. Do not clean treated area for at least 4 hours. Use twice daily at least 8 hours at a distance or as directed by a physician. The patient should use hair removal techniques as needed together with VANIQA. Apply it at least 5 minutes after hair removal. Cosmetics or sunscreens may be applied over treated areas after cream has dried.

Possible side effects of Eflornithine Cream:

All medicines may have more or less side effects. Vaniqa Eflornithine Cream also leads to some minor problems. But many people have reported no, or minor, side effects. Consult your doctor if any of general side effects persist or become bothersome. This cream may cause redness; skin tingling; temporary stinging or burning. Look for medical attention immediately if any of these severe side effects occur:

Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); bleeding or irritation of the skin.

Precaution

  1. This medication does not remove hair, but rather appears to check hair growth to improve the condition and the patient's appearance. Patients will likely need to continue using a hair removal method (e.g., shaving, plucking, etc.) along with VANIQA® (eflornithine hydrochloride) Cream, 13.9%.
  2. Patients can see improvement after as little as 4-8 weeks of treatment in the 24-week clinical trials. Therefore it should be continued for 8 weeks. The condition may return to pretreatment levels 8 weeks after discontinuing treatment.
  3. If you experience skin irritation or intolerance, temporarily reduce the frequency of application (e.g., once a day). If irritation persists, the patient should discontinue use of the product.

Drug interactions: Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription medication you may use, especially of: other facial or skin products. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. US residents can call the US national poison hotline at 1-800-222-1222. Canadian residents should call their local poison control center directly. This medicine may be harmful if swallowed. Symptoms following ingestion may include hair loss, facial swelling, seizures, hearing loss, upset stomach, loss of appetite, headache, weakness, and dizziness.

Notes: Do not share this medication with others.

Missed Dose: If you miss or forget a dose, do not make it up. Instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.

Storage: Store at controlled room temperature (77 degrees F or 25 degrees C). Brief storage between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) is permitted. Do not freeze.
